Left: the upload. Right: the file you get, which we placed on a checkerboard so you can see what is transparent. The checkerboard does not come with the file. In this image, the loose strands of hair around the head are still there.

Photos taken at home tend to carry things you are not selling: a bedsheet, a wooden table, a clothes rail, a bedroom wall. Buyers' eyes drift to the background instead of staying on the product. Cutting the background away so only the product remains is known in the trade as a cut-out, and people hire it out as a job category of its own.

Plien Roob was built by someone who spent 10 years as a model and ran a rental photo studio. A product photo earns its keep when it works in several places — the shop page, a banner, a promotion post — so Remove Background gives you a transparent file you can place on any colour.

Reference prices come from pages anyone can open on Fastwork, checked on 17 September 2026 — prices from listings we found, not a market average. They are each category's starting price, and how many images a job includes depends on the freelancer. Our per-image price is calculated from real plan prices, from Premium yearly up to the smallest credit top-up.

About 12 seconds, at the size you uploaded

On real jobs, half of all background removals finish within about 12 seconds. Every file comes back as a transparent PNG at the same size as the photo you uploaded — however large you shot it, that is the size you get. The product itself comes from your own photo; it is not redrawn.

Transparent is not the same as white. This tool always returns a PNG with a transparent background. When you open it on your device you will usually see a grey and white checkered pattern, which is how photo viewers show empty space; it is not part of the image. The part that matters: saving that file as a JPEG turns the transparency solid black, because JPEG cannot store transparency at all. If you want a genuinely white background, place the PNG on white yourself, or, if the product is clothing, use Ghost Mannequin, which returns a white background to begin with.

What you get every time

A transparent PNG every time, at the size you uploaded, never shrunk

The product or person from your original photo, with the same camera angle and shape you shot

Not a single word to type

  1. Choose the image: upload a new one, or pick anything in your library, including results from other tools

  2. Check the credit count on the button, then remove the background

  3. Download the PNG you get

  4. Before you use it, place the file on a dark colour and zoom in on the edges — any leftover fringe shows up clearly against dark

Studio tips for photos ready to sell

A yellow leather handbag with a top handle and a metal clasp on the front, on a light grey background
Illustration: one product alone on a plain surface, in a colour that stands out from it, with nothing touching it and space all around, as the tips below suggest. The gap under a handle like this is where to zoom in on the edges after removing the background.
  1. Shoot on a surface that contrasts with the product: pale items on dark, dark items on light. A product close in colour to its original background is harder to separate

  2. Let the product stand alone — clear away anything touching it or lying on it before you shoot

  3. Leave space around the product. Any part cut off by the edge of the photo is missing from the file too

  4. Very complex edges such as flyaway hair or sheer fabric may not cut cleanly everywhere, and sheer fabric comes out solid rather than see-through

  5. For bags with straps or handles, the gaps between the straps are usually cut through too, but zoom in on the edges before you use the file

  6. Use the original file from your camera or phone. The result is the same size as your upload, so a photo sent through a chat app gives you a small file too

  7. Want white for your shop page? Put the file on white and see it with your own eyes before saving. If the product is clothing, Ghost Mannequin gives you white in one step

Frequently asked questions

Does removing the background give me a white background?

No. You get a transparent PNG, which is not the same as white. For a white background, place the file on white in a photo editing app and save it again. Don't save it as a JPEG without putting white behind it first, or the transparent area turns black. If the product is clothing, Ghost Mannequin returns a white background to begin with.

I opened the file and see a checkerboard. Is it broken?

No. The light grey and white checkerboard is not in the file — it is how photo viewers show that an area is transparent. Place the file on any colour and that is the colour you will see behind it.

Will it cut long hair or a sheer dress cleanly?

Very complex edges such as flyaway hair or sheer fabric may not cut cleanly everywhere, and sheer fabric comes out solid rather than see-through. Before using the file, place it on a dark colour and zoom in on the edges — any leftover fringe shows up clearly against dark.

How many credits does background removal cost, and how long does it take?

1 credit per image, about ฿2.09–฿3.50 depending on your plan. On real jobs, half finish within about 12 seconds and nine in ten within 15 seconds. If a job fails, the credits come back automatically.

Can I remove a background from a photo for free?

You can try it free, but the amount is limited. Signing up gives you 10 credits, once, with no card needed — enough to remove the background from 10 images. Your first free-plan image has no watermark; the images after it do. Once the credits are used, each image costs 1 credit. This is not an unlimited free background remover.
